Built for the quirks of Scotiabank statements

Scotiabank draws an unusually hard line between its two archives, and its Help Centre spells it out. Statements are visible for the last seven years, but searchable transaction history only reaches back to 1 January 2018, defaults to the last 45 days on screen, and caps at 1,000 processed transactions per day. The download the Help Centre documents is a per-statement-period one — you pick the period, keep pressing Load more until the current statement period total appears, then use the download icon. Anything outside that reach is a PDF eStatement with a dated activity register, split withdrawal and deposit money columns and a running balance down the right.

eStatements older than 2018 still convert, even though Scotia Online's transaction history does not reach them.
The Load more ceiling stops mattering — a busy month converts from the PDF in one upload.
Withdrawals and deposits map to Debit and Credit, keeping every amount pointing the right way.

Questions

Why can't I see my older Scotiabank transactions to export them?

Because Scotiabank's transaction history and its statement archive are different things. The Help Centre states transaction information is available back to 1 January 2018, while statements are visible for the last seven years. For anything before that cutoff, the eStatement PDF is the record — download it and convert that instead.

Scotiabank offers a QuickBooks download. Why would I want CSV?

The documented Scotia Online download is aimed at accounting software and works one statement period at a time. A CSV is what you need for a spreadsheet, a lender's file, a bookkeeper who is not on QuickBooks, or stitching several months into one sheet. The output columns are Date, Narration, Reference, Value Date, Debit, Credit and Balance.

Does it handle Scotiabank credit card statements?

Yes — Scotia Visa statements are PDFs and upload the same way. They read differently from a chequing statement, with purchases and payments listed and no running account balance, so the conversion is verified against the statement's own printed opening, closing and total figures.
