Built for the quirks of Kotak Mahindra Bank statements

Kotak is a mobile-first bank, and its statements read that way: a Kotak 811 account holder can rack up dozens of small UPI entries in a week, so a single month often runs to hundreds of rows of near-identical descriptions distinguished only by a long reference string. Kotak account statements are typically laid out as Date, Narration, Chq/Ref No, a withdrawal/deposit pair marked Dr and Cr, and a running Balance, with the reference number sitting in its own column rather than buried in the text. That running balance plus the closing figures printed on the statement give you two independent ways to check a conversion instead of eyeballing it.

Questions

What is the password on a Kotak e-statement PDF?

Kotak encrypts emailed statements, and the format depends on what the statement is for — account statements and credit card statements do not use the same rule. The covering email Kotak sends with the PDF states the applicable format; trust that over any third-party list. You will need the password to convert the file.

Does this work for Kotak 811 statements?

Yes. An 811 statement is an ordinary PDF and goes through the same upload. The practical difference is volume rather than structure: 811 accounts are used heavily for small UPI payments, so expect long statements with many similar rows — which is exactly the case where a balance check earns its keep.

How do I know nothing was dropped?

Every conversion is reconciled against the statement's own printed figures — the row-by-row running balance and the closing totals — and the result is labelled VERIFIED, DISCREPANCY or FAILED. A DISCREPANCY tells you where the numbers stop agreeing so you can check that row yourself. Full walkthrough in the Kotak statement to CSV guide.
