TD Canada Trust Statement to CSV: EasyWeb and Everything After It

TD Canada Trust is one of the few Canadian banks that documents its spreadsheet export properly. TD's own help material walks you through picking a period on the Account Activity page and choosing Spreadsheet (.CSV) from the download menu at the bottom. If your request fits that, you are done in about ninety seconds.

The trouble starts the moment it doesn't fit — an account type the dropdown doesn't cover, a period further back than Account Activity will show, a TD Visa you need for expense claims, a closed account, or a statement a client emailed you. Then you are holding a PDF, and TD's Statements and Documents archive — up to seven years of it, per TD — is nothing but PDFs. Note this is TD Canada Trust, the Canadian arm; TD Bank in the United States is a separate business with its own statement layouts.

Quick answer

  1. EasyWeb's Spreadsheet (.CSV) download. On the Account Activity page you choose a time period, scroll to the bottom, pick Spreadsheet (.CSV) from the dropdown and click Download. Fast and native — but TD documents a maximum of 45 days per download, which is far short of the 18 months Account Activity will display.
  2. Convert the statement PDF. For older periods, accounts the dropdown doesn't serve, credit cards, or someone else's statement, upload the PDF to BankStatementKit — it extracts the transactions and checks them against the totals the statement itself prints.

Rule of thumb: if the transactions are listed on the Account Activity page in front of you, export them there. If you had to open Statements and Documents to find them, convert the statement.

Convert a TD statement to a verified CSV

Option 1: TD's built-in EasyWeb spreadsheet download

Straight from TD's own instructions, so this is the one path in this post you can rely on being current.

  1. Log in to EasyWeb and go to the Accounts page.
  2. Select the account you want.
  3. On the Account Activity page, choose the time period you want. TD's help pages describe the last 30 days loading by default with 60, 90 and 120 day options, plus a Search by Month view that reaches back further.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose Spreadsheet (.CSV) from the download dropdown.
  5. Click Download, save the file, and keep the .csv extension when prompted.

Option 2: Convert the TD PDF statement to CSV

  1. In EasyWeb, open Statements and Documents, pick the account, filter by year and save the statement PDF you need.
  2. Upload it. The file is processed in memory and never stored. If it is password-protected, supply the password at upload.
  3. Transactions are read into seven standard columns: Date, Narration, Reference, Value Date, Debit, Credit and Balance — cheque numbers land in Reference rather than being buried in the description text.
  4. Check the verification label and download the CSV. Uploads are limited to 20MB or 50 pages per file.

Statements that come back from a branch as scans go through OCR automatically, so an old photocopied statement still converts.

Why TD PDFs trip up generic converters

Cheque numbers get swallowed. TD chequing statements carry cheque references alongside the transaction description. A converter with no separate reference column either drops them or glues them onto the front of the description, and you lose the one field that lets you match a cleared cheque to your own records. They belong in their own column.

Descriptions wrap. Interac e-Transfer entries, preauthorized debits and bill payments carry payee names and long reference strings that overflow the description width and continue on the next physical line. Read line by line, one transaction becomes two or three partial rows with no amounts.

Debits and credits are separate columns. TD prints withdrawals and deposits as two money columns beside a running balance rather than one signed number. Merge them without tracking which column an amount came from and every debit in the file quietly flips direction.

Prove the CSV matches the statement

TD statements hand you two independent checks, and you should use both.

  1. The running balance chain. Take each row: previous balance, minus the withdrawal, plus the deposit, should equal the balance printed on that row. A single missing or duplicated transaction snaps the chain at exactly the point it happened, which makes the error self-locating.
  2. The statement's opening and closing totals. Opening balance plus total deposits minus total withdrawals must equal the closing balance the statement prints, and your extracted row count should agree with the statement's own count of entries.

TD Visa statements have no running account balance, so the second check does the work alone there. BankStatementKit runs both automatically on every conversion and labels the output VERIFIED, DISCREPANCY or FAILED — a discrepancy points at the row where the arithmetic diverges rather than just telling you something is off.

FAQ

Why is there no CSV option on my TD savings or credit card account?

The Spreadsheet (.CSV) download appears on the Account Activity page, but it is not offered uniformly across every TD account type. Where it is missing, the statement PDF is your route — download it from Statements and Documents and convert it, which gives you the same columns regardless of account.

How far back can I get TD transactions?

Account Activity covers a rolling recent period with a longer month-by-month search behind it, while TD's Statements and Documents archive holds up to seven years. Anything from that archive is a PDF, so past the activity view, converting is the only way to a spreadsheet.

Is TD Canada Trust the same as TD Bank in the US?

No. TD Canada Trust is the Canadian retail bank with EasyWeb; TD Bank, N.A. is the separate US bank with a different online banking platform and different statement layouts. This guide describes the Canadian side. A US TD statement will still convert — the extraction reads the document's layout, not the bank's name.

Will the CSV work with QuickBooks, Xero or Wave?

All three import bank transactions from CSV with a mapping step, and the output columns line up with what they expect. The output is CSV only — there is no direct QBO or OFX file from this tool.

What happens to my statement after I upload it?

Nothing is stored. The PDF is processed in memory and discarded, your conversion history is kept for 30 days and you can delete it at any point. The first conversion is free with no account; a free account gets three a day. Questions go to contact us.

The bottom line

If your TD account offers the Spreadsheet (.CSV) download and the period you need is on the Account Activity page, take it — it is TD's own data and it is free. For every other case, and that includes most of what accountants and mortgage brokers actually ask for, the PDF is the record. Convert it, and check the result against the statement's own balances, because the cheque references and split debit and credit columns are where a quiet error will sit. When EasyWeb won't give you a spreadsheet, convert the statement

Every conversion is balance-checked against the statement's own printed totals, and your first one is free with no account required.
