Bank of Baroda Statement to CSV: Native Export vs the PDF

Bank of Baroda is a nicer starting point than most Indian banks if you want transactions in a spreadsheet, because the bank's own internet banking will hand you an Excel file. That's genuinely unusual, and it means a decent share of BoB conversion jobs shouldn't be conversion jobs at all.

The rest of them absolutely are. Statements requested through the bob World app come back as password-protected PDFs by email. Closed accounts, dormant accounts, older history, and statements a client sends you are PDFs by definition. If you're filing returns, assembling a loan file, or handing a year of transactions to a bookkeeper, you'll probably meet both situations in the same afternoon.

Quick answer

  1. Bank of Baroda's own download. Log in to internet banking, search transactions for your date range, and download the result. The bank documents Excel, PDF and TXT as the download options at that step.
  2. Convert the PDF. For app-requested statements, emailed statements, closed accounts or files someone forwarded you, upload the PDF to BankStatementKit and get a CSV back that's balance-checked against the statement's own printed totals.

Rule of thumb: if you can log in and the period is available, take the Excel file — no extraction, no ambiguity. Everything else goes through the PDF.

Option 1: Bank of Baroda's built-in statement download

Bank of Baroda publishes this flow on its own site:

  1. Log in to internet banking and open Operative Accounts under the Accounts tab.
  2. Click the three dots at the right-hand end of the account you want.
  3. Select Generate Account Statement, then the Search Transactions link.
  4. Enter your criteria — account number and date range — and click Search.
  5. Download the result using the Excel, PDF or TXT icons.

Through the bob World app the route is different and ends in a PDF: from the More or My bob tab choose Request Services, then Certificate & StatementAccount Statement, pick the account and the from/to dates, and submit. The statement is emailed to you as a password-protected PDF.

Option 2: Convert the Bank of Baroda PDF statement to CSV

  1. Open the statement PDF — from BoB's email, or downloaded from internet banking.
  2. Upload it and supply the password if prompted. The file is decrypted in memory and never written to disk.
  3. Transactions are read into seven standard columns: Date, Narration, Reference, Value Date, Debit, Credit, Balance.
  4. Check the verification label, then download the CSV.

About the password

E-statements from Bank of Baroda arrive encrypted, and the password rule is not something Bank of Baroda publishes, so check the covering email. That email is the authority; use it rather than a third-party list, and note that credit card statements may follow a different rule from account statements.

Why Bank of Baroda PDFs trip up generic converters

Date and description run together. This is the failure people actually hit with BoB files. The date column and the particulars column sit close enough that generic PDF-to-Excel tools merge them into a single cell, producing a column you can neither sort by date nor filter by description — and fixing it by hand across several hundred rows is the whole afternoon. Reading the page as a positioned table rather than as a stream of text is what keeps the two apart.

Particulars wrap. Long NEFT, RTGS and UPI narratives spill past the column width onto a second physical line. A line-by-line reader turns that one transaction into two, the second with no amount attached, and the row count silently inflates. Continuation lines have to be folded back into the transaction they belong to.

Withdrawals and deposits are separate columns. BoB prints them apart rather than as one signed amount. Collapse them without tracking which column each figure came from and every debit in the file flips sign — invisible on screen, fatal in reconciliation.

Prove the CSV matches the statement

Two independent checks, both using figures the statement prints itself:

  1. The running balance chain. Each row carries a balance. Previous balance minus withdrawal plus deposit must equal the printed balance, on every row without exception. A dropped or duplicated transaction breaks the chain at exactly the row where it went wrong, which is also how you find it.
  2. The printed totals. Opening balance plus total credits minus total debits must equal the closing balance shown on the statement, and the number of rows you extracted must match what the statement accounts for.

By hand that's a solid ten to fifteen minutes per statement, and it's the step everyone skips. BankStatementKit runs both on every conversion and labels the output VERIFIED, DISCREPANCY or FAILED, with a discrepancy naming the row where the numbers stop reconciling.

FAQ

Bank of Baroda gives me Excel already. Why convert anything?

When the native download works, use it — it's free and it comes straight from the bank. But a statement requested through bob World arrives as a password-protected PDF, and closed accounts, older periods and statements forwarded by someone else never had an Excel version to begin with. Those are the cases this path exists for.

What's the password on my Bank of Baroda statement PDF?

Bank of Baroda does not publish the password rule, and the third-party guides that claim one contradict each other, so read the email that delivers the statement rather than guessing from a blog — account and card statements may not use the same rule. You'll need the password at upload because the file cannot be opened without it.

Can I convert statements from the old Vijaya Bank or Dena Bank period?

If you have the PDFs, yes — they upload like any other statement. Records spanning the 2019 amalgamation can use different account identifiers and layouts, so convert each document separately and check that one file's closing balance matches the next file's opening balance before you merge them.

Will the CSV import into Tally, Zoho Books or QuickBooks?

The output is standard CSV with Date, Narration, Reference, Value Date, Debit, Credit and Balance columns. All three accept a CSV bank import with a column-mapping step. There is no direct Tally XML or QBO export.

Is uploading a bank statement safe?

The PDF is processed in memory and never stored. Conversion history is kept for 30 days and you can delete it at any time. Uploads are capped at 20MB or 50 pages, and scanned statements fall back to OCR automatically. Anything else, contact us.

The bottom line

Bank of Baroda gives you a real native export, so start there whenever you can log in and the period is available. For app-requested statements, emailed PDFs, merged-entity history and client files, convert the PDF — and check the result against the statement's own numbers, because the merged date-and-description failure is obvious while a silently dropped row is not. Layout notes are on the Bank of Baroda statement converter page.
